Taksonomi
Garangan berekor coklat pertama kali dideskripsikan pada 1837 oleh zoologis Prancis Isidore Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire dengan nama Galidia unicolor dan Galidia olivacea . Ia ditempatkan dalam genus Galidia , bersama dengan ( Galidia elegans ), [ 3 ] yang sekarang diakui sebagai satu-satunya spesies dari genus tersebut. [ 4 ]
