Portia adalah satelit bagian dalam Uranus . Ditemukan dari gambar yang diambil oleh Voyager 2 pada tanggal 3 Januari 1986, dan diberi nama sementara S/1986 U 1 . [ 1 ] Satelit dinamai menurut , tokoh utama wanita dalam drama William Shakespeare , The Merchant of Venice , dan juga dinamakan Uranus XII . [ 2 ]

Portia adalah satelit dalam Uranus terbesar kedua setelah Puck . Orbit Portia, yang terletak di dalam radius Uranus, perlahan-lahan meluruh akibat pasang surut , yang kemudian, suatu hari akan pecah menjadi cincin planet atau menabrak Uranus.
Satelit ini mengepalai sekelompok satelit yang disebut Portia Group , yang meliputi Bianca , Cressida , Desdemona , Juliet , Rosalind , Cupid , Belinda dan Perdita . [ 8 ] Satelit-satelit ini memiliki orbit dan sifat yang serupa. [ 8 ]
Sedikit yang diketahui tentang Portia, ukurannya berdiameter sekitar 140 km, [ 5 ] orbit, [ 4 ] dan albedo geometris sekitar 0,08. [ 8 ]
Dalam citra Voyager 2 , Portia muncul sebagai objek memanjang yang poros utamanya mengarah ke Uranus. Rasio sumbu spheroid prolate Portia adalah 0,8 ± 0,1. [ 5 ] Permukaannya berwarna abu-abu. [ 5 ] Pengamatan dengan Teleskop Luar Angkasa Hubble dan teleskop terestrial besar menemukan fitur penyerapan es air di spektrum Portia. [ 8 ] [ 9 ]
