Lysithea ( bahasa Yunani : Λυσιθέα ) adalah satelit ireguler Jupiter . Lysithea ditemukan oleh Seth Barnes Nicholson pada tahun 1938 di Observatorium Mount Wilson [ 1 ] dan dinamai berdasarkan tokoh mitologis , putri dari Okeanos dan salah satu selir Zeus . [ 4 ]
Lysithea tidak mendapat nama sekarang hingga tahun 1975. Sebelumnya, Lysethia dikenal sebagai Jupiter X . Satelit ini kadang disebut pula sebagai " Demeter " [ 5 ] dari tahun 1955 hingga 1975.
Lysithea termasuk dalam kelompok Himalia , kelompok satelit yang mengorbit Jupiter dengan jarak antara 11 dan 13 Gm dari Jupiter dengan inklinasi sekitar 28,3°. [ 2 ] Elemen orbitnya berdasarkan data bulan Januari 2000. Mereka secara terus-menerus berubah oleh karena gangguan surya dan planet.
Bersama Lysithea, Jupiter untuk saat ini diketahui memiliki 79 satelit .
